Harvesting Mullein flowers

Mullein Verbascum Species

Standing tall and strong, growing wild where she wants to not where she is told to. This amazing wild friend has drawn me into her web over the last number of years. With each year growing more in love with her gifts and energy.

Mullein appears where she is needed and she grew abundantly around me this year.  She grows tall and strong, not allowing herself to be swayed by others.

I am drawn to her bright yellow flowers so much this year, I  have been harvesting them slowly in their own time as they fall from the plant. I allow them to dry completely over the space of two weeks to allow any moisture to leave. I plan on making a beautiful ear ache oil with them and infused garlic cloves. i also may make an oil for chest problems as the Irish weather can cause a lot of dampness in the body.

Mullein flowers have been used for centuries as pain relief and anti inflammatory. lymphatic actions help resolve infections. when we look at the yellow flowers we think of the sun and heat, although Mullein is a plant of air (think lungs) the fire element of the flowers will help any dampness in that area.
