Winter has come in so fast and has brought with it so many colds and flus. My feels around the whole Covid chat is people are now afraid of getting colds, flus and coughs. Colds and flus are normal and are an expected part of being a human.
All we can do is try to support our immunity as best we can. As a herbalist I try support my body in the best way naturally, there is a time and a place for modern medicine and people really need to stop seeing them as different. They both hold a very important place in our lives. Holistic health is the way forward and I feel that if people start to get Intune with their bodies more they will start to know what their bodies may need.
I know my body is going to be more open to illness after a stressful or emotional time, or when I am menstruating as most women will be more stressed and run down in this phase of her monthly cycle. So I have learned to really support my body with warm soups, currys and hot food especially root veggies. You want to look at your digestive system as a fire, so in winter you want your fire to be more efficient. To keep you warm from the inside out. But also to allow any waste to be eliminated. Gut health is so important for a healthy immune system.
I love to also support my lymphatic system by weekly dips in my local lake, Lough Owel is a magical place based outside of Mullingar Co.Westmeath, steeped in the magic from the Children of Lir. Cold water therapy has proven to help boost your immune system and also helps to increase metabolism, better sleep, aches pains. Supporting my lymph system means my body can get rid of waste easier, So many peoples lymph is stagnant. Have you ever smelt stagnant water? If your body is stagnant so is your vitality.
